There are a number of aspects of your business that need to be addressed with training.

Prospecting
Recruiting
Hostess coaching

Back office
Leadership
And more. 
But, what’s first? 
Recently, a regular topic of discussion with many companies revolves around teaching the new distributors what they are supposed to do first.
Literally! When the new kit arrives, what do you want them to do NOW?
And, once they’ve done it, what should they do next.
I have a pretty simple look at training and I’m sure, a person with “training” in their title, can tell me why I’m wrong. But, until I hear from them, I’m going to keep running with it.
Training is about creating good habits.

		<description><![CDATA[We get lots of phone calls from companies that are looking for help with their prospecting and/or recruiting efforts.
A typical call starts something like this.
“I need a new video and someone recommended that I contact you… ” 
or
“I’m interested in having my company featured in one of your magazines”.
or
“I saw a journal you did for XYZ company and I’m interested in doing something like that for my company&#8221;
The calls sound pretty benign, don’t you think?
Generally speaking, the callers have some idea of what they want and have a pretty clear idea of why they want it. Growth is the common answer.
Over the past 20+ years, I’ve observed and participated as hundreds of companies created and launched new tools that were supposed to create growth.
Some worked – some didn’t.

Congratulations to the DSA on record attendance.  It was a terrific celebration of the 100th Anniversary of DSA.  Great speakers! Outstanding recognition of the true legends of the industry!
Every year, the event is an incredible opportunity to visit with people from all segments of the industry. From global giants and legends to PRE-start ups, the chance to talk with people that are on the frontlines of the industry is what makes the event so powerful.
I spent some time talking with a husband / wife team that is running a fairly new company. With impressive growth and a solid foundation, they appear to be poised to take a pretty big step toward their growth goals.

		<description><![CDATA[Every couple of days, I see a new Facebook entry from a guy I went to high school with. High school was a long time ago and I was very happy when he sent me a friend request. I responded quickly to his request.
In less than 24 hours, the happiness of having the opportunity to “reconnect” with an old friend went away. It was clear to me that his sole intent of sending the friend request was to get me excited about his network marketing opportunity. 
Ok, you know I’m not against network marketing opportunities so don’t go down that path.
My disappointment was that his friend request was not genuine. He didn’t want to renew an old friendship, he wanted to sell me something. 		<description><![CDATA[Ok, we’ve heard (and said) it 100 times about direct selling companies. 
“(INSERT COMPANY NAME HERE) is a personal development company with great products and a compensation plan.”
Do you believe that? 
Personally, I don’t think there is any question that people join direct selling companies because of what they can EARN  but, stay because of what they can BECOME.  
I’ve seen it too many times to question it.  
Look at companies like Amway, Herbalife, A C N, Primerica, MonaVie, Pre-Paid Legal Services, Mary Kay, Vemma, Ignite, Send Out Cards, Team National and many more. Check out the success and growth each of these companies has had over the years. 
All different companies &#8212; different products &#8212; different compensation plans.

		<description><![CDATA[It’s interesting how people perceive the recruiting process.
We had the opportunity to visit with a group last week that was comprised of corporate team members as well as some top field leaders from the company. The goal for the session was to work together to determine the absolute best and most needed tools that could help the organization grow. In working together, the hope is that the group would have a very strong “buy-in” from all involved.  
Great idea!
The ideas from the field leaders quickly gravitated to items such as flip charts, opportunity brochures,  product brochures, workbooks and other items that would aid them in presenting the business opportunity.

		<description><![CDATA[The topic of “corporate culture” comes up quite a bit around here.
Sometimes it’s about our culture but, more often than not, the topic is about the culture that a client has. 
This past week, I had an experience that will forever change the way I view corporate culture. 
Frankly, until a few weeks ago, I hadn’t paid any attention to Zappos – the online shoe / clothing store. I had heard of their customer service but I didn’t know much more than what I had read in SUCCESS magazine. 
At the recent VideoPlus University, my friend Todd Smith presented his findings on best practices of social media and Zappos came up there. He said their practices were far ahead of most other companies. 		<description><![CDATA[Does your field trust you? 
Do you trust them?
Do they trust that you are making the best decisions every day that will help them reach their goals and guide the company into new uncharted waters?
Have you given them any reason NOT to trust you?
Trust is a HUGE thing.
Many companies cannot honestly say that their field trusts them.
There is some sort of underlying feeling that the company is saying one thing and doing another. Or, maybe the corporation took them down a path and then, suddenly, changed the rules. 
Maybe the field has a legitimate reason to feel the way they do.
When you make a mistake, do you admit it? Do you tell your field you messed up and offer corrective measures?

		<description><![CDATA[I was at a client’s event recently.  A big one with over 15,000 people in attendance.
After flying in late Friday night, I sat in the restaurant of the hotel and overheard a few people talking about how excited they were to be at the event.  They were convinced that the next two days would give them the knowledge to get moving in the right direction in their business.
Apparently, these people had never met and they questioned each other on how long they had been in the business.
Two of the three people answered that they had been in the business less than 2 weeks.
2 WEEKS!!!!????
